Reflections

"I will give you the treasures of darkness
 And hidden wealth of secret places" Isaiah 45:3

Dear friends and family,

Sometimes in life it seems to me that God in His infinite wisdom and care, chooses to take us through certain difficulties in order to reveal something more beautiful on the other side.
The above passage depicts such a thing;
The other day, as I was journeying through the border in order to visit a friend and purchase a sought after liquid commodoty on the other side, I encountered a difficulty. I was instructed to return the following day to the border post to present some official documents to prove my legal residence in this warm-hearted country. Even though I knew my passport showed the legitimate details, for the official it was not enough. I had a big day of hard work planned for that following day and as fuel was low I knew I would have to cycle the 20 km's there and back. I had the choice of either quickly returning before 6 that evening when they closed the post or early the next morning- right before a long days hard work.
I decided to try make it back that evening. So I cycled hard for 1hr and 10minutes to make it about five minutes before closing time. To my delight, the man was still there and I think he was surprised to see me, and especially my sweaty, tired condition...Up to this point...this illustrated the difficulties one sometimes faces in life...
There after, the official released me satisfied at my legitimate residence, next was the long ride back in the fast appraoching dark of night, where the occasional Hienna was feared to be lurking, not to mention the Malaria Mozzie. I was not looking forward to another long ride home and was thoroughly tired still.
Then as I made my way back I began to notice the sky above me, turning into all kinds of beautiful shades of colour and forms of pretty clouds, ever changing. Being on a bike, without noise and speed distractions affords one to really soak it up.
Then as the sky darkenned even more and the beautiful painting of the sky disolved and was no more, I noticed something of parallel beauty. The fire-flies! They were emerging from all around me as I travelled along the quiet darkening road with wide open spaces now filling with darkness, but the fire-flies were increasing equally in number and brightness, silently glowing and the movement of the masses were like dancing little lights amidst a barren, dark african bushfeld were there was no eskom to compete in this briliant display of beautiful nature lights!
Then I thought to myself that the whole trip was well worth it for the picture I got to behold, on the other side.

 Dave.
