NEWSLETTER 3 – 2011

Dear Friends and Family,

I greet you in the name of Jesus, that name which is so fair and beautiful beyond description, or comparison!

Can you believe that it is only the 1st of March! It feels like I have been away from Hillcrest for a year already...and away from my fiancé, Natashia for half a life-time :)

My secret inquisitiveness to get Malaria, so that I know what it is like, has not yet been satisfied, but nearly did on the way in, at T border…Through an interesting turn of events I found myself standing close to the banks of the Zambezi river at dusk for about an hour waiting for the return of the vehicle. I was sure that was my greatest possibility of getting Malaria, if ever I had one, but Lo, the Lord spared me, and all of us who were travelling back to Malawi. Interestingly enough, I have yet to see a Mozzie this year with my own eyes. In general, the Lord has granted us all good health, we are very blessed indeed.

The family have settled back nicely into routine up here, and the children are being schooled in their new schoolroom, much to everyone's enjoyment and appreciation. Everyone is doing well and there is much to give thanks for.
The 'bigger' school in the village will be the major project this year and we are looking forward with much anticipation for the development of that project. Many teams will be coming out to help with this in it's various stages. As K is driving and organising and mobilizing the whole project, please be in prayer for him and for the undertaking of the Lord for all provision necessary.

My studies have kept on steadily and my first module has been submitted. Progress is well under way for the other modules of that first course. I have managed about 15 to 20 hrs per week on studies. I also have put about the same time into practical projects around the base. Language started this week for me with my first 3 hour session yesterday. I have realised how crucial it is to learn the language and so I am also going on to a 15 hour per week program with that. (I may have to cut down on the practical hours)

The highlight so far has definitely been my time up in the village this past week. We made contact with some folk in their fields and things are going well and people are encouraged. Baba H. is doing really well, it was a good time of fellowship with him as well.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and support in so many various ways.

Dave Olds
